So not to long ago I went to a small graduation/ get together/ family and friend party for my cousin. Now let this be known now that I am the ONLY. And let me tress the word ONLY person in the family that is rock'n their natural hair. And I just recently big chopped this past April so my extended family hasn't seen me in a awhile let alone with my natural hair.
But luckily enough for me they loved it! ( I was rock'n my TWA in a pulled back rubber ban puff) Especially the the matriarchs of the family "The Aunts". They told me I was glowing, brave and had this air Of extreme confidence about me. Truth be told my mom, who was not a big fan at first of my hair. Eventually came around to love it. She quickly turned into proud parent and gossiped to them about my hair. So the were anticipating seeing me.
So anyways I went to speak to my little cousin to whom I also haven't seen in a while. (she 11 going to start middle school after summer). And she just point blanks asked me "Whats wrong with your hair?"...
...
... All of what my aunts and other family members told me just went under the bus for a moment. I quickly regained my shocked face and just told her that my hair is natural and quickly explained to her what that was. Then she asked "Oh, Can I touch it?" Now I'm a little testy about this but she was curious so I let her touch it and she said I was soft and smiled.
Now I'm just itching to know has this ever happened to anyone? Where the older members of the family love your hair but the kids give you the side eye?
