I really want IN on this one. I'm getting twists with extensions on Saturday ( I hope).  Kinky Twists have always been good to my hair , but I dread sitting there for hours to get them done.

Ask your braider to coat each section with shea butter before she twists it. This will minimize breakage due to dryness. The extention hair is treated with chemicals that are drying to our hair. Especially if it is relaxed. I have been doing twists for over twenty years. This really helps to minimize breakage due to dryness. Yes we will have natural shedding from our hair being braided, but I found some of the shedding to be breakage from dryness.

Happy Twisting!

Veemack how do you make your twists last on your own hair? Mine start looking fuzzy after a like 5 days. I want them to last but I'm not a fan of gel in my hair.

Sorry it took me so long to reply with my hair status. Between school and work I've been busy as ever. Okay, let's see...

State of hair: Natural
Starting length: Um, I've been wearing sew-ins to transition so last I checked it was right at the base of my neck, maybe a bit longer.
Desired goal from challenge: I just want it to grow as much as it can!
Brief regimen while in twists: Dunno yet, I was gonna read the reggies on the forum and tailor fit my own.
Type of twists: two strand/kinky twists with extensions. (I'm using BSS Freetress Equal Marley braid for my extensions, has anyone used it before?)

Some hair history:
I haven't relaxed since August 2009- yay me!- and as I stated, I've been using sew-ins to transition. When I started it wasn't by choice- my hair was a few inches long, it was cut into a short style. I moved from Kansas City, MO to Austin, TX and I realized VERY quickly that the amount of quality black hair salons were in short supply, until I found one that does everything from weaves to natural hair, and I was thrilled to say the least! My natural hair plan is to use extensions until my hair is at a good length. Since they have a natural stylist there, I want to learn how to do my own styles but also go get my hair done by her as well. I love this forum for all the information on natural hair care that I've learned. It wasn't planned initially but Im glad that I decided to stop using the "creamy crack" lol. My hair has been relaxed for as long as I can remember (my ex-stepmother put one on my hair and my mama was HOT when I got home! Oohwee, she ripped her a new one!!), so I've never seen what my real texture is like. So far it seems to be maybe a 4A, very soft, thick and kinky with tight, springy curls. I'm excited to see where the journey takes me. #naturalgirlsrock

Happy growing, ladies!ClapClapClapClapClap

Does this challenge start Fri ? If yes,  I'll pass on the challenge.  I'm lazy now & will not twist my hair this week.

If the start date is later--let me know because I think I'll jump in the ring.
