Topic: Twist Challenge? (April -June) Posted: Mar 20 2011 at 10:13pm |
Would anyone be interested in doing a 3-month twist challenge from April to the end of June?
Twists have been my choice of protective style and I have seen a lot of retention with them. If anyone also does twists or is interested in making twists their protective style, this challenge would be great for you. The twists can be done with or without extensions.
The rules are pretty simple:
Keep hair twisted from April to the end of June. If you are not wearing twists with extensions, then you must keep your twists in at least 5 days at at a time...only going about at most 3-4 days in between the next set of twists. Trims and light dusting allowed. No major cuts. Check in weekly re: your progress.
I know that this section doesn't get a ton of traffic, but hopefully enough folks will be interested in joining the challenge to get it going. let me know!

Hey I'm in. I happen to have an appointment for mine (with extensions) on April 6th so I'm down. I've been searching through the forum for twist maintenance also so I'm excited to see the growth. We are allowed to get the edges redone right? Can't be looking crazy if they'll be in for 3 months, lol.

HR, may I join? I have been wearing twists 98% since 2008 and don't think I am going to change up my style anytime soon (they are too versatile.

Hi HR,
No, my poor scalp cannot take extensions anymore...I use my own hair. I used to wear extension braids in the past. Anyway, I have found that my retention with wearing twists has been great. When I started wearing twists my hair was bsl stretched, now my hair is wl to hp stretched.
I usually twist my hair weekly but now it's every 2 to 3 weeks. I currently have a set in now that's been in for the last 3 weeks. Wash/condition weekly and moisturize and seal daily and bun my hair...boring but I like experimenting with bun styles.

thanks for the info, bunniehoney! wow! your growth is great! how long have you been natural? and how long did it take you to get to bsl?
i just got extension twists for the first time in feb. they were cool - no tightness or discomfort. i wash/steam them weekly. we'll see what my retention is like when i take them out. i usually do twists with my own hair. i just cut off my relaxer in dec so i was only twisting my own hair for abt a month and a half bef i put these extensions in. when i take these out, i am going to twist my own hair and try to keep them in for about 2-3 weeks at a time bef i redo them.
how do you keep them stretched after you wash them?

okay, ladies...please provide the following info...i'll go first:
State of hair: Natural
Starting length: between shoulder and APL
Desired goal from challenge: to reach APL
Brief regimen while in twists: wash weekly; dc/steam every 2 wks; when i'm out of my city twists, will be retwisting my own hair every 2-3 weeks
Type of twists: city twists (extensions); but will switch over to my own hair mid-April

I just un-braided tons of mini box braids (no extensions) so I'm contemplating joining this challenge. I'm in the 6 mths of no direct heat challenge so 3 months of twists w help me reach my goal.
HR, I'll let you know which way I've fallen off the fence.
