I flat ironed my hair professionally for the very first time a couple days ago. It's looking really good and I haven't done anything to it. This morning though, I made the mistake of putting my sofnfree gro healthy milk protein and olive oil creme to my hair and some parts have reverted. What do you do to avoid this problem? Do you buy a new arsenal of non water based hair products when your hair is newly straightened? I want my hair to last two weeks with this style. Is that not possible?

The basic measure taken to preserve your pressed hair is to avoid the exposure to moisture. You must try to keep your hair dry by staying away from activities that involve water. You must also avoid the use of wet hair products such as gels and hair lotions.

It is very important to protect your pressed hair against wetness because your hair will quickly revert to its original texture. During rainy season, you should always carry an umbrella or a jacket. Wearing a plastic cap while bathing or taking shower will also help you in keeping your hair dry.

I made the mistake of using the olive oil lotion on my flatironed hair before andit caused my hair revert. The key w/ flatironing is moisture deep conditioning prior to flatironing so the hair would not need moisturizing products after the flatiron. I used oil (virgin olive oil) to "moisturize" my hair and keep the press longer.

I wouldn't use any heavy oil maybe something light like Argan Oil or my cheap favorite Africa's Best. If you do use Moisturizer only use a little bit and mix it with the oil. That should help. Most moisturizers have water as a first ingredient. But thats what I do and it really helps.

DO NOT use any products that are liquid, except a light oil before or after you straighten. There's pretty much no way around preventing reversion with any liquid/water-based product. Invest in a good humidity blocker (sabino moisture block) and anti-frizzant for humid or rainy weather. Also, I would recommend a head scarf (wrap around hair covering all of it) or a swimming cap to wear while you shower-much better than a flimsy plastic shower cap...unless you want your hair to revert. HTH!

I use jojoba oil to moisturize and evo to seal. My hair is not weighed down or greasy, after putting the extra virgin olive oil in my hair is really soft to the touch. I believe olive oil smooths the cuticle and that's why it's so soft afterward, not that it's dry and rough prior to if that makes sence
