Topic: prepping transitioning hair Posted: Oct 04 2011 at 3:12pm |
What is the best way to prep transitioning hair for a flat iron job?I am going back to natural. I never transitioned before, only BC the first time. My hair has been breaking at the LOD pretty often...my hair cannot exist with the two textures for long, but I want to hold on for another 3 months, at least. I've been wearing braids often but want to try heat for the first time in my hair's life, lol. I have 6 inches of NG and about 8-9 inches of chemically treated ends (which I have been cutting off slowly, 6 inches total gone since March). I try to moisture DC weekly and protein DC once monthly. I think I may have to up the protein to every three weeks, though.
Please help :3

Be careful with the protein. Too much protein can make the hair become brittle and cause breakage. Keep using moisturizing shampoos and conditioenrs as well as reconstructing conditioners on your hair. Joico K-Pak is excellent, along with Affirm 6 -in-1 Reconstructor, and Swarzkof (I know I mispelled it) Reonstructing conditioner. Paul Mitchell's Super CHarge Conditioner is good too.

Thank you! I will google these, but what do reconstructing conditioners do?

They add back nutrients to the hair that is sometimes lost during washing with sulfates and overexposure to heat and overprocessing.

You can wash and condition hair every two weeks. Let the conditioner stay on for 20 minutes with a plastic cap. Sitting under the dryer is optional.
