I joined this challenge for thick healthy ends. Here is my starting pic:
My aim is to have full thick blunt bsl ends by December 2012. Those thin ends have to go! I plan to trim my ends every 3 months until I get rid of all the thin ends, while at the same time retaining sufficient growth to get my to full bsl by December 2012.
My first trim will be in March 2012. By that time those thin ugly looking ends should be past my bsl, at which point I will trim them back to just above my bsl. I will repeat this in June and in September, after which I will allow them to grow back until December 2012 at which point I will hopefully have full thick bsl hair.
I have been relaxing my hair every 3 to 4 months, and I will continue relaxing my roots only every 3 months.
I will also reduce my direct heat usage to maximum 2 to 3 times a month - even less if I could. I will keep bunning as much as I can, only wearing my hair out for special occasions.
Hopefully this will take me to full bsl. |
Looking back at this pic I can't believe I initially planned to hold on to those ends until March. Luckily common sense prevailed and I cut them off on the 8th of January. It took me back to just a tad bit shorter than APL, but with thicker ends. My hair has since grown back to APL and my ends already look much fuller. I am also holding back on the direct heat and my hair has been thriving.

My regimen
Before install I did a black tea rinse because it reduces my breakage.
I did a protein treatment and a DC.
While installed
I have 3 nozzled bottles which I use for
- Shampoo/ Conditioner
- Leave in mix
- Oils
Washes
Cowash every other day w/ Tresemme or VO5/HE HH
Pre-poo w/ oil mix
Use Aphogee 2 min reconstructor
Shampoo every other sunday w/ whatever (sulfate-free) shampoo is the shower that day
(note to self: do not use Aussie Moist Shampoo. Moisture my a**! )
Leave in/growth mix
MN, MTG, tea tree, rosewater, few drops of my 7 Oils Mix which I purchased in Curacao
Leave in mix
Rosewater+glycerin (on wet hair), Organic Root Stimulator Shea Butter Lotion (on length of hair), Megatek (on scalp)
Couldn't stand the smell of MTG anymore , I'll find another product which contains sulphur
Seal
JBCO, Teatree oil, Vatika oil
Oils (I do not use this all the time, because my mix contains oils)
Amla, olive, flaxseedoil, jojoba, coconut
Oil use for Pre-poo only
Olive oil, jojoba oil

Here's my monthly update!
So I've been keeping my hair in my u shaped wig, loving the fact that I can protect most of my hair during this nasty winter weather. Occasionally I wear my naps out just so I don't get hooked on always seeing myself in long, straight hair. Despite what we say, there is something bad about thinking we look prettiest in long straight hair. It's good to break free from that. Plus, I feel way more funky in my lil fro.
Either way, mostly wanted to discuss hair progress. Really, I can't tell because my hair is always braided up. It is a HASSLE trying to keep my natural hair looking good (while it's this short at least), so I haven't taken it out of the braids under the weave in maybe a month. I'll probably take it down next month.
My edges have been a problem. Been using JBCO daily for about three months, but doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot for me :(. It keeps my edges smoothed down and conditioned, but can't say it's helping for growth. Womp.
I started taking hair/skin/nails vitamins this week. I'll see if this has any effect on me. Til the next update, here's my most recent hair pic. I get major shrinkage!

Update: Man, how time flies! I'm thinking of taking a new shot to see where my growth is at tonight or tomorrow. I can definitely tell a difference between my beginning shot on December 25, 2011 to now. I have been wigging it up and having chunky two strand twists during the time period between washes and or co-washes. It seems like my hair responds more to the Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner than my Suave Almond and Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner and my Humectant conditioner. But those are still my staples.
