Topic: Moisturizing fine 4a hair Posted: Jun 19 2011 at 7:00pm |
Hello!
I would love to get some other ideas on how to moisturized my fine 4a hair. Also, I like to keep it simple. I'm not about doing a lot to my hair.
Right now, I'm trying to find a good hair products to use on my hair. I've tried shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil..etc. The stuff just sits on my hair and makes it hard and greasy. Gels definitely do not work, they seriously break my hair off. Watery based lotions/creams don't seem to work on my hair which is weird. I'm getting frustrated with my hair.
Thanks..

Oils don't moisturize and shea butter is really better as a sealant, not a moisturizer. So that's why those don't work for you.
Gels usually contain alcohol, which dry your hair out and that dryness leads to breakage.
If you are using a true water-based moisturizer (meaning, no petroleum or mineral oil), and it's still not working, you may have product buildup, which would mean that the moisture is not reaching your hair. Try a clarifying shampoo and then follow up with a good moisturizing deep conditioner and water-based moisturizer.
Also, try moisturizing with water and then sealing with a little bit of shea butter. Water is the purest moisturizer and shea butter is damn near impenetrable, so it's good for sealing the moisture from the water in. You could try this after a cowash or on a wash day after you rinse your conditioner. Since you have fine strands, you won't need a lot of shea butter because it'll weigh your hair down if you use too much.
Hth!

^^^TRUE
wet the the hair then seal in moisture with oils.
I love olive oil and wild growth oil on my hair and scalp As a moisturizer shea moisture is the BOMB!!! I also gota little kinky curly knot today but that's best on wet hair. Look for glycerin in products or you can just mix it in with other things you use. They sell it at whole foods. For a while I would just use almond/ shea condtion from suave as a leave in but right now the shea moisture curl and style milk is my fave.
Remember water is not the enemy. mist your hair or let get wet in the shower. I do that ad some product, wrap it up and in the am it's real soft.

Pumps,
Ok, I have not clarified my hair. Are there any shampoos and moisturizing conditioners you would recommend? Thanks.

Ok, I'm not putting water on my hair. I may have to try that too.

My favorite is V05's Tea Therapy Clarifying Shampoo. It's a greenish-blue color. It gets your hair really clean and it's only like $1.
If you want a more natural alternative, black soap is also good for getting hair really clean.

Maybe a small dab of Shea Moisture hair milk on the ends of your hair may work.
