Ok, so I get these great flat irons and after a month or so of use, my hair smells burned. I am assuming the coating of the iron has worn off or something..any insight on this ladies???

1. are you using a ceramic plated flat iron?
2. do you use heat protectant?
3. what temp do you usually flat iron your hair at?

IA with the above

Is your iron plated or made entirely out of a metal?
If it's plated yeah that stuff probably came off.

Using something for heat protection and not just gloss and shine?

And you using a usual safe heat?

Plus how often are you doing this?
And is your hair moisturized enough to take heat?

I think your iron is excessive warm or the coating is weired.

Hey you should try cleaning it.  Let it heat up really hot..Unplug and use pt vinegar & water on a cloth.  If that does not work they have a few things in the BS store.  Good luck

I have used Bed Head and Stiff Stuff before and they work amazing but I might have to try that out!

Use a good smelling leave-in conditioner, that way you will not smell the burn smell after flat ironing your hair.

IA with most of the comments about the ceramic plating, too hot and cleaning it. Once a stylist used a setting that was too high and for 3 weeks it smelled burnt (after washing it). Try turning down the heat temp after cleaning it and see if you still get that smell. If so, toss the flat iron b/c it's no longer doing what it was originally meant to if the coating is gone.
