As for length, I do love wearing my braids long but I probably won't be seen in anything longer than a 28-30" curly and 26" straight (about lower back for me) <-- come to think of it, are those lengths excessive?

ooh, right now i'm straight broke. that's why i'm was worried about my appearance in the job market. i used to wear microlinks but no one gives a crap about that here since it's so common. since i've stopped getting the thermal ionic treatments, i've been transitioning with braids. there's some black folks in these parts but we're such a small group and braids do stand all the way out (but not as much as them neon colored yarn braids ppl be getting from my braid shop).

I've worn braids for years in the workplace. I think the key is to sticking to natural colours and PLEASE keep em clean. Upkeep them.. don't let them grow out into half dreads.

I always got many compliments on my braids! However they were always my natural hair color and usually the length was to the middle of my back. Whenever I had a conservative meeting I would put them in a french roll or a ponytail combined with nice earrings, heels and a suit. It's a classy original stylish look that always rocks....I think.

Its all in the style. I wouldnt do Poetic Justice type braids for work....but neat, stylish crochets or micros in subdued colours work just fine

I think it depends on the type of job and people you are exposed to daily. My job doesn't allow me to wear braids and I typically have to press or bun my natural hair in order to present a more conservative look. However, I am the only person of color in my firm, so again I'll say it depends on the people you are exposed to on a daily basis.

Honestly, I have never come across this issue-- I work for a law firm and I am the only person of color in most settings I encounter-- I always receive compliments on my hairstyles. I keep my braids neat and presentable when I have them. My mother taught me to NEVER let the white corporate/white privilege world alter my views on who I am, or the type of hair that I was born with just to fit into a certain viewpoint from people who don't matter to begin with. She quotes, " [They] just want to emulate our styles anyway." It's really true when you take a step back to evaluate society. But... I digress. Honestly, even if they made a comment about my hairstyle negatively, I would be so quick to threaten/pull a lawsuit that it wouldn't even be funny.

I've worn all the braid styles you mentioned in the last year and the only problem I've had is nosy ass co-workers constantly trying to touch my hair, asking about and commenting on my hair...why I changed my hair, how I get it to look a certain way, why I didn't keep it another way, they liked it better the other way. I guess because I'm the only one who ever does anything "different" to their hair, it's become like a past time for everyone to sit around and talk about my hair as if it actually impacts their lives.
I've also been on job interviews with braided styles and it didn't stop me from getting follow up interviews or praise from hiring managers.

I've been very apprehensive on getting micro braids the organization I work for is not very diverse. I've worn wigs and weave caps and I was not very satisfied on how they appeared on me. My hair is cut short and I would like for it to grow out, I find Micros is the perfect soloution soooo after three months of thinking about it I look forward to getting my micros this week. I will update all on how my new style was recieved at work. I beleive as long as my overall appearance is professional my braids will not be distracting as they are so common.
