I must say .. the thing about waiting is ... you get more and more scars on your skin.

If you are waiting for the natural products to works ... surely after many years you will have permanent scaring that the mild skin peels cannot fix.

If you are a White - that is different because they have all sorts of laser treatments and DEEP CHEMICAL BURN peels that will give you a serious controlled burn ... (can't live the house for 2 weeks!) however, the skin will heal and be as clear as a baby's bottom. This is what stars like Nicole Kidman use.

However, you have to be a WHITE person because that kind of peel strips the color from your skin.

So they NEVER use those sorts of peels on BLACK, Asia, Indian or Spanish skin .. because they will lose their color .. but in the worse way and again, doctors don't want to get SUED.

So my point is ... when you let time go by your skin gets so damaged that even when the acne goes away .. you will still have the SCARS and since you are a person of color .. you cannot remove them.. SO then you have the pock marks or dark marks etc .. forever.

So for Accutane you can try the a low, medium or high dose .. depending on how bad your skin is and just knock it out. No, DON'T GET PREGANT.

Becky, I heard when using Accutane your face actually first gets worse and acne starts to clear up after like 5 months or so ??!! That is hell of a long time, which is why I never looked to drugs treatments to cure acne. I have a moderate one though, I have no pimples, if I don't mess around the blackheads, but literally every area of my face has some bumps or blackheads, just SOMETHING

Benzoyl peroxide seems to be the ultimate remedy for acne.

Also, diet plays a huge part in acne treatment, on acne.org there is a photostory of a guy who got rid of quite severe acne in half a year because he stopped eating pizzas and things like that, and drink alcohol

what about proactive? i love this stuff!  Your hormones, stress, and the way you treat your skin in general all comes into play.  IA with a good moisturizer. And there is no "cure" persay for acne. .none that I have ever heard of ever before.  It's a medical condition but sometimes goes away or lessons with age as your body produces oils and chemical differently as you get older. I guess every persons skin is different and a different approach is needed for all.  I have a friend who used to work at a pharmacy and she agreed the side affect are very risky so it would never be used unless it is pretty severe.  Becky very true about scarring, it gets worse if you don't do something about it.  But I absolutely love proactive, surpised no one has mentioned it?  I think cystic acne is one type that proactive may not work on. . .

Umm I don't know what you heard - but from my personal experience, my skin did not get WORSE before it got better. Confused

If you have have had a problem from age 12 to 35 .. spending 8 months on this drug IMO  .. is a smalllll price to pay to be done with the whole skin situation.Shocked It depends on how serious you are about it - and I was serious.

Nooo.. gradually, day by day .. my lips got dryer and dryer and the bumps came less and less symptomatic. Until they are gone completely.

Ask a Doctor .. he will tell you that Accutane is the only definitive cure for acne. Now -some people have rebranded this drug under another names of course .. they've got to make their money too! Hee hee! But at the core .. it has to be Accutane.

Anyway, like I said I have had this conversation for 20+ years and people never take my advice -  they always go for other stuff and they get pi*** at me because my skin is in such good shape.

So ..I don't say a word anymore. People are free try anything they want.

Since clearly I will have the exact same results on this thread - I am done talking about it here .. but if anyone wants to PM and talk .. fine. Tongue

IA! i love and use proactive too..though your breakouts and blemishes sort of start to come back after you stop using it. I have learnt a little secret though. I only buy certain products in their line and use those in conjuction with other regular products which are oil free, gentle e.t.c

OK, but.. you shouldnt be so harsh, because there are a lot of people who had way more serious side effects than just dryness on lips and in eyes. And in a lot of cases it makes the acne worse

But you got me there, I think I'm going to dermatologist this week and start Accutane treatment... lets just hope i will be in the majority who had awesome results and bearable side effects

I don't trust accutane, I had a friend who was on it long term who developed a large tumor in her stomach- she was in her early twenties and had no family history of tumors and her doctor believed the accutane was the cause. Her horrible acne improved from the drug but in the end it was not worth it. I had really bad adult onset acne and the only prescription drug that worked for me was benzaclin. As far as scarring, the only thing over the counter that faded my scars( had numerous scars on my back as well from the acne) was natural bisse intensive lightening complex. It's hella expensive but faded all of my scars in a relatively short time.
